GeoLab Ecosystem
“We connect science, art, and place to transform our relationship with nature.”
Our Essence
In every ecosystem, different elements interact and work together to create the conditions for life to flourish.
GeoLab Ecosystem is an initiative that connects expertise and talent to foster scientific research, education, artistic expression, and the development of educational and editorial content. Through this interdisciplinary approach, we generate knowledge, inspire well-being, and develop practical solutions that support biodiversity conservation and the sustainable stewardship of nature.
Impact Areas
Sustainable production systems
We promote production systems based on agroecological principles that integrate productivity and conservation.
Tropical forest ecology
We study the dynamics of tropical forests and their responses to disturbances such as wildfires and deforestation.
Urban ecology and sustainable cities
We explore the interactions between biodiversity and urban environments to promote resilient, and nature-friendly cities.
Environmental education and outreach
We develop content and experiences that enhance understanding of biodiversity and encourage sustainable lifestyles.
Biodiversity Conservation
We generate and apply scientific knowledge and natural history insights to understand, conserve, and restore biodiversity.
Narrative and art
We create stories and artistic expressions that connect people with biodiversity and inspire its appreciation and conservation.
Visión
To become a leading ecosystem that connects places, people, and transformative ideas across scales, integrating science, creativity, and sustainability to foster a deeper and more meaningful relationship with nature.
Purpose
To generate, apply, and share knowledge through collaborative research and engagement with communities, cities, and landscapes, using science and art to understand, value, and conserve biodiversity while developing sustainable solutions with local impact and global reach.

Lines of action
Applied Research
We conduct place-based research to understand ecological dynamics and generate knowledge that informs conservation and sustainability.
Art and communication
We use art as a tool to inspire, communicate, and strengthen connections between people and the natural world.
Education and capacity building
We foster learning environments that build capacities and encourage sustainable engagement with nature.
Content and product development
We create editorial, educational, and creative products that bring together biodiversity, design, and storytelling.
Ongoing Projects

Founder and Director of GeoLab Ecosystem
With more than 20 years of experience, Geovana has led and collaborated on a wide range of initiatives in environmental science, research, and conservation. As a researcher and ecologist, she has navigated the challenges of advancing scientific work in contexts with limited research opportunities, relying on creativity, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
GeoLab Ecosystem was created in response to the need for alternative spaces that foster knowledge generation, meaningful impact, and new ways of connecting science, art, and society to address environmental challenges.
